Level 1 Cinematography Workshop

The cinematographer is one of the key creative individuals in the filmmaking process, and is certainly the craftsperson whose work audiences are most aware of. Cinematography is much more than making pretty pictures and beautiful lighting. It has a ‘language’, and it’s about shooting films in a relevant way, in order to serve and express the script and to create a work of visual clarity and power. 

This 1-day practical workshop will give an introduction to the art of cinematography, and will be constructed around shooting on Arri Alexa camera system. Participants will learn:

• Some basics of lighting and how to create mood, look and add shape/depth to your images.

• How camera angles and movement relate to drama.

• When it feels right to shoot handheld, on a tripod or on a slider.

• The basics of pulling focus in a shooting situation.
